Tips for Getting More Value Out of Your Wetsuit Alteration or Repair

You can extend the life of your suit by practising proper care and maintenance. Here are a few tips.

  • Avoid sharp objects

    Wetsuits, even high-quality ones, can be fragile. Try to steer clear of rocks, reef, and even the car park’s gravel. Also, watch your Velcro – be sure to keep it closed on your boots, leg Ropes, the neck of your suit, and anywhere else you find it so that it doesn’t grip anything it’s not supposed to. 

  • Rinse it out

    As soon as you leave the ocean, rinse your suit inside and out with fresh water. A good way to do this is by filling a bucket with water and using your hands to rinse out your suit, and then turning the suit inside out and repeating. Every now and then use wetsuit wash. (Letting your wetsuit soak in Urine in the back of your car won’t be great for it or your nose or your wetsuit. 

  • Hang it to dry – in the shade

    It’s important to dry your suit completely. Find a shady spot where it can hang in the fresh air and drip dry. Hang your suit on a wide to very wide hanger. Instead, don’t hang it in half through the hanger or over a fence or similar as this will wrinkle your suit reducing its thickness therefore reducing the performance. 

Remember you should also wash your wetsuit once in a while with wetsuit shampoo to remove stubborn saltwater and give it a good cleaning. (Especially before sending to us for repairs)
